Why marquise looks bigger

Marquise cuts spread their carat weight along the length of the stone instead of down into the pavilion. A 2ct marquise reads noticeably larger on the finger than a 2ct round. If maximum visual size per dollar is the goal, this is the shape.

What a marquise ring costs

A 2.0ct marquise solitaire in E–F/VVS2, 14K yellow gold, runs roughly $2,175–$2,425 total. With a hidden halo at 2.5ct F/VS1, roughly $2,000–$2,300. A recent bezel-set 2ct marquise build completed at $2,149.

What to check before you buy

Symmetry matters more on a marquise than almost any other shape — the two points must align exactly, or the stone looks crooked once it's set. Also ask about the bow-tie, a dark band across the center caused by cut proportions. Neither shows on a spec sheet, so always ask for video of the actual stone.
