3 Carat Oval Lab-Grown Diamond Ring Price (2026)

By Ryan Clayton, founder of Lavora Diamonds, Provo, Utah. Updated August 2026.

The number

A 3 carat oval lab-grown diamond engagement ring costs roughly $2,050–$2,400 all-in in G colour, VS2 clarity, set in a 14K gold solitaire — certified stone, setting, custom CAD design and production included.

Change one variable and it moves like this:

Build Estimated all-in
3.0ct · G/VS2 · 14K · solitaire $2,050–$2,400
3.0ct · F/VS1 · 14K · hidden halo $2,300–$2,700
3.0ct · G/VS2 · 14K · pavé band $2,275–$2,675
3.0ct · G/VS2 · 14K · three stone $2,500–$2,925

A real one we built

A 3.16ct oval, D colour, Internally Flawless, 14K white gold with a hidden halo and four double-round prongs: $3,249 all-in. IGI Report LG768619254, issued February 6 2026. Measurements 11.98 × 8.38 × 5.17 mm — a 1.43 length-to-width ratio.

That is the top of both the colour and clarity scales. Most buyers should not pay for it, and here is the proof.

Why you probably shouldn't buy D/IF at 3 carats

We also built a 4.02ct oval in E/VVS2 for $3,349 (IGI LG799653539). That is nearly a full carat more diamond for $100 more — because colour dropped one grade and clarity dropped from Internally Flawless. Neither difference is visible without magnification.

At 3 carats, the money is better spent on cut quality and length-to-width ratio than on the last two grades of the certificate.

What actually changes the price of a 3ct oval

  • Ratio. A 1.40–1.50 L/W oval looks noticeably bigger than a 1.30. Same carat, same price, better ring.
  • Bow-tie. Every oval has a dark band across the middle. A good cut nearly eliminates it. It is not on the certificate — ask for video of the actual stone.
  • Setting. Hidden halo adds about $180 · pavé about $240 · full halo about $320 · three stone about $450 · 18K about $250.
  • Colour and clarity. Real but smallest visual impact. G/VS2 is the value sweet spot in an oval.

Is a $6,500 quote for a 3ct oval too high?

Almost certainly, if it's a lab-grown stone in a standard setting. Get the IGI report number, verify it at igi.org, and ask for the stone price and setting price as two separate figures. Then price those exact certified specs with a seller who carries no showroom overhead.

FAQ

How much should a 3 carat lab-grown oval cost?

Roughly $2,050–$2,400 all-in for G/VS2 in a 14K gold solitaire. A hidden halo or a step up to F/VS1 pushes it to about $2,300–$2,700.

Is 3 carats too big?

Ovals wear larger than their carat weight because the shape elongates on the finger. A 3ct oval reads closer to a 3.5ct round. If she has smaller hands, look at the millimetre measurements on the report, not the carat number.
