These are the questions that matter most when comparing a custom lab-grown engagement ring: what the grading report proves, what the written quote includes, when the timeline starts, and which terms apply to your exact ring. The process can be completed by text without a required sales call.
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Laboratory-grown diamonds are diamonds produced in a controlled environment rather than mined from the earth. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, made of carbon just like mined diamonds. Trained laboratories can identify their origin with specialized testing. “Lab-grown” describes origin; it does not mean cubic zirconia or moissanite.
What does an IGI report prove?
An IGI laboratory report identifies the stone as laboratory grown and records grading details such as carat weight, color, clarity, measurements, and other characteristics included on that report. Use the report number to check the record directly with IGI before approving the stone. A report documents the diamond; it does not by itself describe the ring’s metal, setting construction, warranty, or final price.
How much does a custom lab-grown engagement ring cost?
The final quote depends on the exact certified diamond, its measurements and grades, the ring size, the metal and fineness, and the 3D design and setting details. Carat weight alone is not enough to price a ring accurately, and a generic online range is not a promise for a specific build.
How should I compare two engagement-ring quotes?
Compare the same written specifications line by line:
- The exact diamond or report number, not only a carat range
- Shape, measurements, color, clarity, cut information, and any treatment disclosure
- Metal, fineness, ring size, band width, and band thickness
- Prong style, basket or cathedral construction, side stones, pavé, and hidden details
- 3D render revisions, resizing, shipping, service, warranty, return, and payment terms
- The point at which the quoted timeline begins
A lower total is only a better price when the stone, setting, and included terms are genuinely comparable.
How should I compare a custom quote with a showroom quote?
Compare an itemized custom quote against the same diamond and setting specifications from a showroom. Lavora operates as a text-first custom jeweler rather than requiring a showroom visit. Either way, an exact written comparison on the same certified specs is what settles the price.
How does Lavora’s custom process work?
- Send a saved ring image, design notes, or a competing written quote.
- Receive a personal recommendation and clear custom price by text.
- Review the proposed diamond’s IGI report and specifications.
- Review and approve the 3D design for the setting.
- After payment and 3D design approval, the ring moves into the confirmed production timeline.
No call is required to start. If a design detail, budget, or date is still unknown, it should be confirmed before production rather than assumed.
How long does a custom Lavora ring take?
Lavora’s current working timeline is 4–5 weeks after 3D approval and payment. The exact delivery date can still depend on the design, revisions, stone availability, production, quality control, and delivery method. If you have a proposal deadline, disclose it before paying and ask for the achievable date in writing.
What if I do not know the ring size?
Share the best information you have, such as the size of a ring worn on the intended finger, but do not assume every setting can be resized the same way. Ask how the proposed metal, pavé coverage, stone layout, and band construction affect future sizing before approving the 3D design.
Should I choose gold or platinum?

What should I confirm about payment, returns, resizing, and warranty?
Ask for the current terms that apply to your specific made-to-order ring before payment. Confirm the payment schedule, what becomes non-refundable, which design changes are included, how resizing is handled, what the warranty covers and excludes, and who pays shipping for future service. Do not assume a stock-jewelry return policy or another jeweler’s warranty language applies to a custom order.
Can I see a completed Lavora ring with documented specifications and price?
Yes. The completed Sam & Talli ring used a 4.02 ct E/VVS2 oval lab-grown diamond, a 14K yellow-gold setting, and hidden blue and red birthstones. The recorded sale price was $3,349, with a 26-day interval from the recorded start to completion. It is one documented build—not a universal price or timeline promise.
